6th Grade

Art I: Introduction to Art focuses on building creative thinking and practicing artistic behaviors. Artists will have the opportunity to work with a variety of mediums and artistic techniques. The themes explored include Still Life (drawing from life), Self-Portrait (creating artwork that is personally relevant), and Pop Art (inspired by current events and popular culture).

7th Grade

Art II: Intermediate Art artists will continue to practice creative thinking and artistic behaviors as they work with a variety of more advanced mediums and artistic techniques. Themes explored include Activism ( designing a meaningful work of art that communicates information or ideas), portraits (exploring personal and cultural identity), and Into the Wild (persist to solve creative problems).

8th Grade

Art III: Advanced Art focuses on creating three-dimensional sculptural works in a variety of mediums. Artists will continue to practice artistic behaviors as they work through the creative process. Themes explored include the Sculpting Movement (interaction of subject matter and form/structure), Relief Sculpture (document creative process, reflect and refine art in progress), Real World Objects in new contexts (investigation of everyday life using contemporary practices).

Objectives/Goals/Targets:

Creating: Artists will practice using creativity and innovative thinking in order to create and refine artistic work.
Presenting: Artists will select, analyze, and share artistic works.
Responding: Artists will practice reading and interpreting artworks.
Connecting: Artists will connect personal experiences and historical/current contexts to the process of art-making.
