7th Grade Science
Course Requirements:
Mariner Middle School utilizes a 7th grade science curriculum that has been adopted by the Delaware Science Coalition. During their 7th grade year students will engage in a hands-on curriculum that places a heavy emphasis on life/environmental science. The units of study include:
- The diversity of Life… An exciting dive into what it means to be considered “living,” the complexity of various types of cells, and mechanisms for classifying and spreading life throughout the natural world.
- Genetics… The study of how a small, yet complex cell can hold the keys to genetics, hereditary genes, genetic diseases, blood types, and so much more.
- Properties of Matter… This unit takes an in-depth look at “matter.” We will begin by learning about what matter is, and then quickly progress into concepts like particle model and density.
- Delaware Watersheds… The watersheds unit takes students on a tour of Delaware’s immense watershed system. We will look at the importance of Delaware Watersheds, water quality, and the conservation of water, our most precious natural resource.
Classroom Rules & Procedures:
- Respect is a two-way street. Respect the people around you and they will respect you.
- SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY... No if, ands, or buts about it. Follow all school safety rules and lab rules according to the lab safety contract at ALL TIMES.
- Be responsible for your own actions. Pay attention, don’t disrupt others, and focus on learning and sharing in a helpful way.
- Come to class prepared with all materials. It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to bring all necessary materials each day.
- Come ready to learn and contribute to our class! While in this classroom we are a team, community, and family of learners!
